Your Robot Has a Soul

:: seeward volume 6 :: Your Robot Has a Soul :: is a concept album about the increasing influence of technology on our understanding of ourselves and what makes us particularly human. The main device used to play with this concept i timing and rhythm. As music is increasingly made with the aid of computers (robots that make music at times) there is n interesting tension between the idea of making things sound “perfect” like a computer might play it or using an algorithm to “humanize” the part so it sounds more natural to the ear. It is within the tension between these two poles that this album sits. There are parts that are hard to listen to at times and even intentionally “out of time” but then there are other parts that are locked up tight and tidy. Does this tension push us forward toward the question of Robots becoming increasingly human? Or does it just make us want to shake our rumps a bit to the heavy grooves that it brings forth? Put it on and see how your rump likes it….

Kalmeer

This album is :: seeward  volume 5 : Kalmeer :: … Kalmeer is Afrikaans for chill-out and that captures the vibe of the songs perfectly. They are meant to provide a chilled atmosphere in the background of your life. Although there are some sonically charging songs, the album is intentionally a laid back collection of songs. These songs are a departure from the usual folksy strumming fare that I usually write and in fact there is not one guitar in the whole series. I played lots of mew instruments that have been created for the iPad and did the bulk of the recording and mixing in a wonderful iPad based multi-track recorder called Studio.HD. Inspired by Gorillaz Christmas album, I made the entire song cycle on my iPad. Enjoy!
